## Dev Log Entry: Merge Trend & Currently Columns (Frontend)

### 1. Task Overview

The objective was to streamline the Deals Dashboard by merging two separate columns: "Trend" (displaying a directional arrow like ⇧, ⇩, ⇨) and "Currently" (displaying a relative timestamp like "1 day ago", mapped from `last_price_change`). The user requested that the "Trend" column be removed, and its data (the arrow) be prepended to the "Currently" column's data.

Crucially, the underlying data separation needed to be preserved. The API still returns `Trend` and `last_price_change` as distinct fields to allow for different display contexts (e.g., in the deal overlay), but the main dashboard grid should visually combine them.

### 2. Technical Implementation

- **Target File:** `templates/dashboard.html`

- Logic Change:

  - **Column Removal:** Removed `"Trend"` from the `columnsToShow` array in the JavaScript configuration. This prevented the independent "Trend" column from generating a header or cell.

### 3. Challenges & Solutions

- **Challenge: Frontend Verification without Full Environment**
  - *Issue:* The development environment did not have a running Flask server or database populated with specific test cases (e.g., a deal with a "Down" trend). Verifying the UI change usually requires a full stack.
  - *Solution:* Implemented a **Playwright verification script with network interception**. Instead of relying on the backend, I mocked the `/api/deals` endpoint response within the test script. This allowed me to inject a controlled deal object `{ "Trend": "⇩", "last_price_change": "..." }` and assert that the frontend correctly parsed and displayed these merged values, completely bypassing the need for a live database or backend logic.
- **Challenge: Identifying Column Mappings**
  - *Issue:* The dashboard code uses internal column names (`last_price_change`) that differ from the displayed headers ("Currently" or "Changed").
  - *Solution:* Analyzed the `headerTitleMap` in `dashboard.html` to confirm that `"Changed"` maps to `"last_price_change"`. This ensured the modification was applied to the correct column.

### 4. Outcome

The task was **successful**.

- The "Trend" column is no longer visible on the dashboard.
- The "Changed" column now displays the trend arrow immediately to the left of the relative time string.
- No backend code (`wsgi_handler.py`, `keepa_deals/`) was modified, ensuring that the raw data remains separate for other uses (like the overlay details).
- Deployment requires only a `touch wsgi.py` to reload the templates; no database reset is needed.
