# Dev Log: Documentation Restructuring & GitHub Sync Failure

**Date:** January 7, 2026
**Task:** Refactor Documentation to Fix Agent Unresponsiveness & Investigate Sync Failure
**Status:** **Partial Success** (Local changes complete, Remote sync failed)

## 1. Task Overview
The original objective was to solve the "Agent Unresponsiveness" issue caused by Context Window Overload. The strategy was to restructure the massive `Documents_Dev_Logs` folder into streamlined `Documentation/` and `Dev_Logs/` directories and archive old logs.

## 2. Work Completed (Local Environment)
The following changes were successfully implemented and verified in the local sandbox:

### A. Directory Restructuring
- **Created `Documentation/`**: Contains active source-of-truth files (`System_State.md`, `Data_Logic.md`, `README.md`, etc.).
- **Created `Dev_Logs/`**: Contains only the 6 most recent development logs for immediate context.
- **Created `Dev_Logs/Archive/`**: Contains all older logs, including the monolithic `dev-log-10/11/12` files (which were split into atomic entries).
- **Deleted `Documents_Dev_Logs/`**: Removed the legacy folder.

### B. Documentation Updates
- **`Documentation/System_State.md`**: Created a new summary file to serve as the primary "Read First" document.
- **`Documentation/Agent_Task_Instructions.md`**: Created a standardized instruction block for the user to copy-paste into future tasks.
- **`AGENTS.md`**: Updated to mandate reading `System_State.md` and only recent logs.

## 3. The Critical Failure: GitHub Sync
Despite the agent successfully running the `submit` tool (twice), the user reported that the changes **did not appear on GitHub**.

### Symptoms
1. **Stale Remote:** GitHub shows the last update was ~12 hours ago (commit `3aaa10c`), missing the "Restructure" commits.
2. **Local Staging:** `git status` revealed that while file operations were done, the changes were sitting in the "Staged" area (Changes to be committed) but were not finalized into a pushed commit history visible to the user's "Publish branch" workflow.
3. **Button Behavior:** The user noted the "Publish branch" button behavior changed and failed to trigger the expected update.

## 4. Hypothesis for Troubleshooting
The next agent needs to investigate why the `submit` tool is not pushing or why the local git state is getting stuck.

- **Possibility A:** The `submit` tool creates a commit but fails to push to `origin`.
- **Possibility B:** The environment is in a "Detached HEAD" state or a temporary branch that isn't tracking `origin/main`.
- **Possibility C:** The sheer number of file moves (renames) triggered a git safety mechanism or timeout during the push.

## 5. Next Steps (For the New Task)
1. **Do NOT assume the documentation is fixed on the server.** The new task will likely start with the *old* structure (`Documents_Dev_Logs`) since the push failed.
2. **Objective:**
    - Verify git remote configuration (`git remote -v`).
    - Check current branch status (`git branch -vv`).
    - Attempt a manual `git push` with verbose logging to see the actual error message.
    - Once sync is fixed, re-apply the documentation restructuring if it was lost.
