# Dev Log: Dashboard UI Refinements

**Date:** 2026-01-18
**Task:** Small UI Tweaks to Dashboard
**Status:** Successful

## Overview
The goal of this task was to implement specific visual refinements to the Deals Dashboard to align with the provided mockups and user requirements. The key areas of focus were:
1. **Table Width:** Ensuring the data table fills the 1333px wide container to match the Filter Panel.
2. **Font Consistency:** Standardizing the font weight of the "Price Now" column to match other data columns.
3. **Sort Functionality UI:** Fixing a broken hover effect on the column sort arrows.
4. **Trend Indicators:** Updating the trend arrows in the "Offers" column to use specific directional icons and colors (vertical arrows for trends, sideways arrow for flat).

## Challenges Faced

### 1. Verification Environment Instability
* **Issue:** The initial attempt to verify frontend changes using Playwright failed because the development environment lacked necessary Python dependencies (`flask`, `pandas`, `httpx`, `celery`, `redis`) and the local server was not running.
* **Resolution:** Manually installed the missing packages via `pip` and started the Flask application (`wsgi_handler.py`) in the background before running the verification script.

### 2. Font Weight Regression
* **Issue:** A request to match the "Now" column font weight to others was initially interpreted as making it **Bold** (`700`). However, visual inspection revealed that adjacent columns appeared **Normal** (`400`). Setting it to 700 created a visual mismatch.
* **Resolution:** The specific CSS rule `.price-now-cell { font-weight: ... }` was removed entirely from `global.css`. This allowed the cell to inherit the table's default styling, which correctly aligned the visual weight with the rest of the row.

### 3. Sort Arrow Hover Effect
* **Issue:** The hover effect for sort arrows (swapping "Off" images for "On" images) was not working. The images were initially in the root directory, causing 404 errors when referenced by the dashboard's relative paths. Even after moving them to `static/`, browser caching or case-sensitivity issues persisted with filenames like `AscendingON.png`.
*   **Resolution:**
    * Moved all arrow assets to the `static/` directory.
    *   Renamed assets to lowercase kebab-case (e.g., `ascending-on.png`) to eliminate case-sensitivity risks.
    * Updated `dashboard.html` to use absolute paths (e.g., `/static/ascending-on.png`) in the Javascript `renderTable` function.

## Solutions Implemented

### CSS & Layout
* Added `.deal-table { width: 100%; }` to `static/global.css` to ensure the table expands to fill its 1333px parent container.
* Removed `.price-now-cell` styling to enforce font consistency.

### Javascript Logic (`dashboard.html`)
* Refactored `renderTable` to map trend text symbols to specific HTML entities:
    *   `↘` (Diagonal Down) -> `↓` (Vertical Down `↓`, Green)
    *   `↗` (Diagonal Up) -> `↑` (Vertical Up `↑`, Red)
    *   `⇨` (Flat) -> `→` (Right Arrow `→`, Orange)
* Updated `onmouseover` / `onmouseout` event handlers for sort arrows to reference the new, correctly named image files in `static/`.

### Asset Management
* Cleaned up legacy arrow assets (`DownArrow_off.png`, etc.) to prevent confusion.
* Standardized new asset naming conventions.

## Outcome
All requested UI tweaks were successfully implemented and verified. The dashboard now features a correctly sized table, consistent typography, functional sort arrow interactions, and accurate trend indicators.
