# Dev Log: Rename 'Agent Brain' to 'Intelligence'

**Date:** 2026-01-20
**Task:** System-wide rename of the "Agent Brain" feature to "Intelligence".

## 1. Task Overview
The objective was to rename the "Agent Brain" feature to "Intelligence" to align with updated naming conventions. This required a comprehensive update across the entire application stack, ensuring that no references to "Agent Brain" remained in the code, user interface, or documentation, while preserving existing data.

## 2. Implementation Details

### Data Layer
- **Migration:** The existing data file `agent_brain.json` was renamed to `intelligence.json`.
- **Backup:** A backup copy `agent_brain.json.bak` was created prior to the rename to prevent accidental data loss.
- **Backend Logic:** The variable `AGENT_BRAIN_FILE` in `wsgi_handler.py` was updated (renamed to `INTELLIGENCE_FILE`) to point to the new `intelligence.json` path.

### Backend (Flask)
- **Routes:** The Flask route `/agent_brain` was renamed to `/intelligence`.
- **View Functions:** The `agent_brain()` view function was renamed to `intelligence()`.
- **Logic:** Updated file read/write operations in the `approve()` and `intelligence()` functions to use the new file path.

### Frontend (Templates)
- **File Rename:** `templates/agent_brain.html` was renamed to `templates/intelligence.html`.
- **Layout Update:** The navigation link in `templates/layout.html` was updated to label the link "Intelligence" and point to the `intelligence` endpoint.
- **Content Update:** All user-facing text headers and descriptions in `templates/intelligence.html` were updated to replace "Agent Brain" with "Intelligence".

### Documentation
- **File Rename:** `Documentation/Feature_Guided_Learning_Strategies_Brain.md` was renamed to `Documentation/Feature_Guided_Learning_Strategies_Intelligence.md`.
- **Reference Updates:** Comprehensive updates were made to:
  - `README.md`
  - `AGENTS.md`
  - `Documentation/System_State.md`
  - `Documentation/System_Architecture.md`
  - `Documentation/Feature_Guided_Learning_Strategies_Intelligence.md`

### Testing
- **Test Updates:** `tests/test_auth_phase1.py` was modified to assert the presence of the `href="/intelligence"` link instead of the old route, ensuring the Admin RBAC tests pass with the new routing structure.

## 3. Challenges & Resolutions

### Environmental Instability
- **Issue:** During the verification phase, running `pytest` failed because the `flask` and `pytest` modules were missing from the current shell environment, despite the project appearing to have dependencies installed in other contexts.
- **Resolution:** Manually installed `flask`, `pytest`, and other required dependencies (via `pip install -r requirements.txt`) in the active bash session to allow the test suite to run.

### Comprehensive Search
- **Issue:** Ensuring *every* reference was caught, including those in comments or obscure documentation files.
- **Resolution:** Utilized `grep -r` searching for both "Agent Brain" and "agent_brain" to systematically identify and eliminate all legacy references.

## 4. Outcome
The task was **successful**.
- The application now uses `/intelligence` for the feature.
- All data was preserved and migrated.
- The UI correctly displays "Intelligence".
- Tests passed (`tests/test_auth_phase1.py`), verifying the route is accessible to admins and correctly protected.
- Documentation accurately reflects the current system state.
