# Dev Log: UI Tweaks - SVGs, Icons, and Navigation Refactor

**Date:** 2026-01-27

**Task Status:** Success

## 1. Task Overview
The primary objective of this task was to polish the User Interface (UI) of the Deals Dashboard and the global navigation header. The request covered four main areas:
1. **Iconography Update:** Replace existing HTML entity arrows in the dashboard table with custom SVG assets (`Arrow_down.svg`, `Arrow_up.svg`, `Arrow_level.svg`) and replace the generic AMZ warning icon with a specific `AMZ_Warn.svg`.
2. **Visual Alignment & Sizing:** Enforce specific sizing (13px for arrows, 16px -> 17px for AMZ icon) and strict alignment rules (Arrows left of data, AMZ right of data).
3. **Data Sorting:** Change the default sorting of the deals grid to prioritize the newest deals first (based on the `last_price_change` column).
4. **Navigation Responsiveness:** Refactor the top navigation bar to handle variable screen widths better, specifically implementing a "max content width" of 1550px while maintaining a full-width background, and adding logic to clip the logo on smaller screens to save space.

## 2. Implementation Details

### Dashboard Table (`dashboard.html`)
* **SVG Integration:** Modified the `renderTable` JavaScript function to inject `<img>` tags pointing to `/static/...` instead of using HTML entities.
*   **Icon Logic:**
    * **Trend Arrows:** Mapped `Trend` values ('⇧', '⇩', '⇨') to their respective SVG files.
    * **Alignment:** Ensured that in the `Offers` and `Ago` columns, the arrow HTML is concatenated *before* the text value to satisfy the "Left Aligned" requirement.
* **Sorting:** Updated the `currentSort` initialization to `{ by: 'last_price_change', order: 'desc' }` to ensure fresh deals appear at the top by default.

### Global CSS (`static/global.css`)
* **Flexbox Header:** Completely refactored `.main-header` and `.nav-section`. Removed absolute positioning in favor of a standard Flexbox layout (`display: flex; justify-content: space-between;`). This allows the navigation elements to flow naturally without overlapping.
* **Logo Clipping:** Added a responsive rule for `.header-logo img`.
    *   **Breakpoint:** `max-width: 800px`.
    * **Behavior:** When the viewport is narrower than 800px, the logo width is forced to `35px` with `object-fit: cover` and `object-position: left`. This effectively crops the "Agent Arbitrage" text, leaving only the "A" symbol, preventing nav collision on small screens.
* **Icon Styling:** Defined `.trend-icon` (13px) and `.amz-warn-icon` (17px) classes to enforce sizing consistency.

### Navigation Layout Refactor (`layout.html`)
* **The "Wrapper" Pattern:** To address the requirement of a "1550px max width" for content while keeping the dark blue header background spanning the full viewport, a structural change was required.
*   **Change:** Wrapped the internal navigation sections (`.nav-left`, `.nav-center`, `.nav-right`) inside a new container: `<div class="header-content-wrapper">`.
*   **CSS Application:**
    *   `.main-header`: Keeps `width: 100%` and `background-color`.
    *   `.header-content-wrapper`: Applies `max-width: 1550px`, `margin: 0 auto` (centering), and holds the flex properties.

## 3. Challenges & Solutions

### Challenge 1: Constrained Content vs. Full-Width Background
**Issue:** Simply setting `max-width: 1550px` on the `.main-header` element caused the background color (dark blue) to stop at 1550px, leaving the page background visible on the sides on ultra-wide monitors.
**Solution:** Separation of concerns. The `.main-header` remains the "background provider" (full width), while the new `.header-content-wrapper` acts as the "content constrainer". This ensures the visual design holds up on 2500px+ monitors while keeping interactive elements accessible.

### Challenge 2: Logo Breakpoint Tuning
**Issue:** Determining the correct pixel width to trigger the logo clipping.
**Iteration:**
1.  Initially planned for ~1100px.
2. Adjusted to 1550px based on an interpretation of the max-width requirement.
3. **Final Correction:** Reverted to **800px** after user feedback clarified that the logo only needs to shrink when navigation elements actually start touching/overlapping, which happens at a much narrower width.

### Challenge 3: Icon Alignment Specificity
**Issue:** The user required arrows to be strictly to the *left* of numbers in columns like "Offers".
**Solution:** In the JavaScript render loop, instead of appending the arrow icon to the end of the string (standard suffix), I specifically constructed the HTML string as `icon + " " + value`. This required careful handling of existing string formats to avoid double-rendering or misalignment.

## 4. Verification
The changes were verified using **Playwright** scripts running in the production environment:
* **`verify_ui_updated.py`:** Confirmed the presence of SVG images, checked the computed width of the AMZ icon (17px), and verified the Flexbox layout properties.
*   **`verify_nav.py`:** Tested viewport resizing.
    * At **1600px:** Confirmed header wrapper was capped at 1550px (centered) and logo was full width (188px).
    * At **2000px:** Confirmed header wrapper remained 1550px.
    * At **750px:** Confirmed logo was clipped to 35px.

## 5. Outcome
The task was **successful**. The UI now features crisp SVG icons, correct data sorting, and a robust, responsive navigation header that respects ultra-wide monitor layouts.
