# Fix Deal Details Overlay Close Button (2026-01-28)

## Context
The user reported that the close button (X) on the Deal Details overlay in the Dashboard was unresponsive. Users had to click outside the overlay (on the backdrop) to close it.

## Root Cause Analysis
Upon investigation, it was discovered that `templates/dashboard.html` extends `templates/layout.html`.
*   **`layout.html`**: Contains a "Mentor Chat" overlay (hidden by default) which uses the class `.close-overlay` for its close button. This element appears in the DOM *before* the dashboard content.
*   **`dashboard.html`**: Defines the "Deal Details" overlay, which also uses `.close-overlay` for its close button.
*   **The Bug**: The JavaScript in `dashboard.html` used `const closeOverlayBtn = document.querySelector('.close-overlay');`. This method returns the *first* matching element in the document. Consequently, it attached the event listener to the hidden Mentor Chat close button, leaving the Deal Details close button with no behavior.

## The Solution
The JavaScript selector in `templates/dashboard.html` was updated to be more specific, scoping the selection to the ID of the deal overlay container.

**Old Code:**

```

**New Code:**
```javascript
const closeOverlayBtn = document.querySelector('#deal-overlay .close-overlay');
```

## Verification
*   **Reproduction:** Confirmed via static analysis (`grep`) that `layout.html` contains the ambiguous class before the dashboard content block.
*   **Testing:**
    *   Populated a fresh sandbox database with a dummy deal using `keepa_deals.db_utils`.
    *   Created a Playwright verification script (`verify_close_button.py`) that:
        1.  Logged in.
        2.  Clicked a deal to open the overlay.
        3.  Targeted the close button via the specific selector.
        4.  Clicked it.
        5.  Verified the overlay visibility state changed to hidden.
    *   The script passed successfully.

## Impact
*   **Scope:** `templates/dashboard.html`
*   **Risk:** Low. CSS selector change only.
*   **Status:** Fixed.
