## 1. Overview
The user reported a regression in the Deals Dashboard where the "Action" column (Buy/Apply buttons) was displaying a permanent activity animation (spinner) instead of resolving to a button or error icon.

Investigation revealed that this was caused by a silent failure in the background task `check_restriction_for_asins`. When the system attempted to refresh the Amazon SP-API access token and failed (e.g., due to expired credentials or network issues), the code would simply log a warning and `continue` (skip) the user loop. Crucially, it did **not** update the database records for the pending ASINs. This left the dashboard in a state of limbo, waiting for a status update that would never arrive.

## 2. Challenges Faced

### Silent Failures are Hard to Trace
Because the failure mode was "do nothing," there were no crash logs or error tracebacks to point directly to the issue. The worker simply finished its task successfully, having done no work. Identifying the root cause required analyzing the logic flow in `keepa_deals/sp_api_tasks.py` to find paths where the database update could be bypassed.

### Reproduction Complexity
Reproducing the issue required simulating a specific failure state (Token Refresh Failure) within the Celery worker environment.
*   **Solution:** A dedicated test script (`tests/reproduce_restriction_bug.py`) was created using `unittest.mock`.
*   **Mechanism:** The script mocked the `_refresh_sp_api_token` function to return `None` (simulating failure) and verified that the original code left the database untouched (failing the test), while the fixed code correctly inserted an error record.

## 3. Solution Implemented

The fix involved refactoring the `check_restriction_for_asins` function in `keepa_deals/sp_api_tasks.py`.

### Old Logic (Flawed):
1.  Try to refresh token.
2.  **IF** token is None: `continue` (Skip everything).
3.  **ELSE**: Fetch ASINs and check restrictions.

### New Logic (Fixed):
1.  Try to refresh token.
2.  Fetch pending ASINs from the database immediately (so we know *what* needs to be checked).
3.  **IF** token is None:
    *   Iterate through the pending ASINs.
    *   Write an error record to the `user_restrictions` table: `is_restricted = -1`, `approval_url = "ERROR"`.
    *   `continue`.
4.  **ELSE**: Proceed with API check.

This ensures that even if authentication fails, the system "fails loudly" by writing an error state to the database. The dashboard then renders the "Warning/Error" icon (`⚠️`) instead of the infinite spinner, informing the user that action is needed (likely re-authenticating).

## 4. Verification
The fix was verified using the reproduction script.
*   **Before Fix:** Test failed (Database row was `None`).
*   **After Fix:** Test passed (Database row contained `is_restricted: -1`).

## 5. Technical Takeaways
*   **Fail Loudly:** Background tasks that feed UI states must never fail silently. Every branch of logic must result in a terminal state (Success, Failure, or Error) being written to the database.
*   **Order of Operations:** In batch processing, identify the work items *before* checking external dependencies. This allows you to mark those specific items as failed if the dependency is missing.
