# Dev Log: Remove Dangerous Admin Functions & Update Documentation

**Date:** 2026-02-01
**Task:** Remove dangerous and obsolete administrative features ("Artificial Backfill Limiter", "Manual Data Refresh", "Danger Zone") from the Deals Configuration page and backend, and update system documentation to reflect these changes.

## 1. Overview
The user requested the removal of several administrative functions that were deemed dangerous or unnecessary:
1. **Artificial Backfill Limiter:** A tool to stop the backfill process at a certain count (used for testing/cost control).
2. **Manual Data Refresh:** A button to trigger a recalculation of business metrics for all deals.
3. **Danger Zone:** A button to completely reset the database and restart the backfill process.

These features posed a risk of accidental data loss or system instability (e.g., triggering a massive recalculation job that hangs the server). The goal was to remove them cleanly from both the frontend UI and the backend API, ensuring the codebase and documentation remain consistent.

## 2. Challenges & Environmental Hurdles
* **Environment Setup:** The initial attempt to run tests failed because `pytest` was missing from the environment, despite being required for the test suite. This was resolved by installing `pytest`.
* **Frontend Verification:** Verifying the removal of UI elements required writing a Playwright script. The script initially failed due to a timeout because the login button logic needed to be robust against different initial states (logged in vs. logged out).
* **Backend Logic Cleanup:** Care was needed when removing the `elif action == 'update_limit':` block in `wsgi_handler.py` to ensure the surrounding `deals()` view logic remained valid and didn't introduce syntax errors.

## 3. Actions Taken

### Frontend (`templates/deals.html`)
* Removed the HTML cards for "Artificial Backfill Limiter", "Manual Data Refresh", and "Danger Zone".
* Removed the JavaScript event listeners responsible for the `reset-db-btn` and `refresh-all-data` buttons.
* The page now strictly serves its primary purpose: editing the `keepa_query.json` configuration.

### Backend (`wsgi_handler.py`)
*   Removed the route `@app.route('/api/refresh-all-deals')`.
*   Removed the route `@app.route('/api/reset-database')`.
* Cleaned up the `deals()` view function:
    * Removed logic for handling the `update_limit` POST action.
    * Removed code that fetched `backfill_limit_enabled` and `limit_count` from the system state.
    * Updated the `render_template` call to remove unused variables.

### Documentation
* **`Documentation/Feature_Deals_Dashboard.md`**: Updated Section 2 to explicitly state that the admin functions were removed in Feb 2026.
* **`Documentation/System_State.md`**: Updated the "Backfill & Maintenance" section to note the removal of the limiter and manual refresh button.
* **`Documentation/System_Architecture.md`**: Updated the "Backfill Deals" section to clarify that the manual trigger via UI ("Danger Zone") is gone.

## 4. Verification
* **Frontend:** A Playwright script (`verify_admin_page.py`) was executed. It successfully logged in as an admin, navigated to `/deals`, and verified that the "Keepa Deals API Query" section was present while the removed sections ("Danger Zone", etc.) were absent.
* **Backend:** Existing tests (`tests/test_auth_phase1.py`) were run and passed, confirming that the changes didn't break basic authentication or routing. Code review of `wsgi_handler.py` confirmed clean removal.

## 5. Result
**Status:** SUCCESS
The dangerous functions have been successfully removed. The application is now safer and less prone to accidental operator error. The documentation accurately reflects the current system state.
